O Papel da Missões Cristãs no Seio dos Ovimbundu: Caso do Município de Caluquembe entre (1897-2020)

Abstract

In the present work that deals with the history of Christianity among the Ovimbundu peoples: the case of the municipality of Caluquembe, we seek to present a brief reflection on the process of evangelization that took place in the municipality of Caluquembe. We seek to observe through a historical clipping the way in which Christianity ended up being imposed during the Portuguese colonization. hus, for our work we use as a general objective: to understand the history of Christianity in the municipality of Caluquembe; as specific objectives we outline the following: Identify the reasons that led the first Christian missionaries to settle in the Municipality of Caluquembe; To describe the role of the IESA, Católica, and Tocoísta missions in the municipality of Caluquembe. To evaluate the positive impact caused by the implantation of Christianity in the Municipality of Caluquembe. Still for the present work, we used the following methods: comparative, historical; and as a technique for data collection we used the interview. So in the first chapter we made a historical and geographical framework of the municipality of Caluquembe; we also discussed the first missions in Angola; and we also talk about Protestant and Catholic missions. In the second chapter, we seek to address the mission of Cola, Caconda, São Thiago, the Tocoísta mission of Waba, Jau, as well as the arrival of the Madeirans and the Implantation of the Cathedral of Lubango and the role of missions in Evangelization, Colonization and Acculturation of the inhabitants of the province of Huíla. For we understand that, despite Christianity being a religion not originating in Africa, it played a positive role in the education of local populations.
