Abstract

The work under the theme "Southern Africa and the Problems of Development After Independence" presents itself as an essay that sought to make an interpretative description of the region in reference and its problems and/or challenges after independence. To give substance to the monograph, it was necessary to elaborate a general objective that consisted of describing the problems of Southern Africa after independence. With regard to the specific objectives, they were: to carry out a geographical and historical framework of the southern region of the African continent; identify the socio-economic problems of Africa after independence and explain the causes that contributed to the emergence of development problems in the region after independence. The following scientific problem was also raised: What problems has Southern Africa been facing in terms of its development after independence? In order to answer the question raised and achieve the objectives, the following methods and techniques were chosen: inductive, deductive, bibliographical and historical research. As for the techniques, statistics and questionnaires were used. The monograph is structured in three chapters, in chapter I: theoretical foundation, it was possible to carry out the historical and geographical framework of the Austral region, its political evolution that passed through the Frontline Countries in 1965 and the emergence of the Conference of Coordination and Development of Southern Africa in 1980. In Chapter II: Southern Africa and its problems after the conquest of independence, the process of decolonization of Southern Africa between 1960-1990, the emergence of the Southern African Development Community in 1992, Southern Africa's current problems and possible solutions. Finally, chapter III: data analysis and interpretation, followed by conclusions, suggestions, bibliography and annexes respectively.
