Abstract

The present work with the theme “Degree of motivation of Geography teachers of the Primary and Secondary Teaching of the Municipality of Lubango”, which identified as a research problem: What is the level of motivation of Geography teachers of the Primary and Secondary Teaching of the Municipality of Lubango. It was defined as a general objective to evaluate the level of motivation of Geography teachers in the Primary and Secondary Teaching of the Municipality of Lubango. To respond to this objective, the following specific objectives were elaborated: to describe the importance of motivation in the performance of the teaching profession; identify the factors that influence the motivation and demotivation of teachers; Propose some measures that aim to resolve some constraints that affect the motivation in the performance of the teaching activity. This is a descriptive study with a mixed approach (qualitative and quantitative). The data collection instrument used was the questionnaire survey. The results showed that most of the teachers surveyed in the two schools have a high level of motivation, that is, they are positively motivated despite the existence of a considerable number of teachers with a low level of motivation. It was also found that the factors influencing the motivation and performance of the professional career are: enhancement of the teaching career, fair salary and opportunity for training and continuous training. On the other hand, the factors that influence the lack of motivation and performance of the profession are: career devaluation; leadership of the school's management bodies; low salaries; high number of students per class and student indiscipline.
